I-9 Compliance

There are many consequences associated with hiring individuals who are not legally eligible to work in the United States (U.S.). In addition to the cost and time associated with responding to an audit, failure to comply can lead to fines or withdrawal of privileges to sponsor foreign candidates for employment. Complying with procedures established to verify employment and identity minimizes the potential for fines and civil or criminal penalties and ensures equal opportunity for individuals hired by an employer.

Participants will learn the recent and expected changes in immigration law impacting the Form I-9 and Special Employment Visas; realize the penalties that occur when the Form I-9 or Special Employment Visa is not in compliance; gain skills to ensure accurate completion of the Form I-9; recognize the re-verification and renewal process to track Form I-9s and Special Employment Visas; adhere to records maintenance requirements; and utilize resources found in the HR Anew Toolkit when addressing Form I-9 and Special Employment Visa issues.
