Speaking Effectively

Executives, managers, and supervisors spend more than 75% of their work-time in interpersonal situations that involve inspiring, informing, or influencing others. During a routine week, they will actually spend more time speaking than writing. This may include using the telephone; conversing informally with clients, colleagues, subordinates, and superiors; conducting meetings working in problem solving groups; conducting employee evaluation sessions; and sometimes being involved in formal speaking engagements. Communication research also reveals that the higher an employee moves in an organization, the more important speaking skills become.

In this session participants will gain knowledge and skills that help them to recognize the power and impact of oral communication; determine when and how to communicate verbally based upon the audience; gain skills that increase self-confidence when delivering a presentation; identify the three categories of communication: inspire, inform, and influence; apply the P.O.I.N.T.™ model when speaking in the workplace; and demonstrate successful oral communication skills through practice exercises.
